Painting and decorating in Wegberg

A colour is not decided on a screen and not under a workshop lamp. We paint sample patches straight onto your own wall and look at them with you in the morning, at noon and again at four in the afternoon. Only then do we order the material.

The same colour, four times a day

Colour has no fixed effect. It has an effect per hour and per window wall. Set a tone, an hour and a window side here, and see how far one paint travels in a single day.

Afternoon light

The hour when most rooms are actually used. The light turns warmer, beige drifts towards yellow, grey picks up a reddish pull.

South rooms take a lot of direct sun. Warm tones can burn out at midday, and half a step cooler stays calm all day.

Window side

The tones in this viewer are examples for the demonstration. What counts is always the painted sample patch on your own wall, because the substrate, the window size and the buildings opposite all decide the result with it.

What is happening here

A screen shows colour as light, a wall shows colour as reflected light. That is why every tone looks cleaner on a monitor than it does in the room. It is also why we work with painted patches rather than printouts.

09:30 East light

North facing or south facing decides with you

Before we talk about a tone we look at where the room gets its light from. Four sides, four characters, and a different recommendation for each.

North

North window

Even, cool light with no direct sun, almost unchanged from morning to evening. The room reads calm and slightly colder than it is.

Choose tones with a warm undertone. Pure greys and cool whites turn grey on grey in here.

East

East window

Direct, clear sun through the morning, then nothing but sky light from noon on. The room has two faces in one day.

Mid brightnesses survive both halves of the day. Very pale tones flare up in the morning.

South

South window

Hours of direct sun, and a strong contrast between the lit wall and the wall in shade.

Go half a step cooler or quieter than planned. Strong warm tones get loud in here quickly.

West

West window

Restrained in the morning, then low and very warm sun straight across the room in the late afternoon.

Judge the tone in the afternoon, not in the morning. Beige and sand go decidedly golden here in the evening.

What we paint and finish for you

Farbenhaft24 is a room finishing firm. The coat of paint is the visible part, and quite a lot happens before and after it so the surface keeps the promise the colour made.

01

Interior painting

Walls and ceilings in living rooms, hallways, stairwells and offices. From a simple refresh to a full recoat after a renovation.

02

Wallpapering

Woodchip, non woven and patterned paper, cleanly butted and kept in pattern. Old paper comes off first and the substrate is prepared.

03

Plastering

Inside and outside. Making good, replastering, and setting the surface up so the later coat takes evenly across it.

04

Decorative wall finishes

Trowelled finishes, glazes and single feature walls, for when a wall should be more than a colour. Always as a sample first, then as a surface.

05

Facade coating

Exterior coating with the surface cleaned first. Outside asks the same question as inside: how the tone reads in sun and how it reads under grey cloud.

06

Floor coverings

When wall and floor are renewed together, both come from one firm. That saves appointments and keeps the junctions from needing rework.

07

Drylining

Stud walls, partitions and suspended ceilings as the substrate for whatever is painted or papered afterwards.

Finished work and the light it lives in

Five rooms from our own work, each one labelled with the light its surface has to carry. Select a photograph to see it large.

How a colour decision is reached here

Five steps, and the most important one costs nothing beyond a second look in the afternoon.

  1. A visit to the room

We look at the room, measure the surfaces and check where the light comes from and what stands outside the window.

  2. Checking the substrate

Old paper, cracks, damp patches and absorbent areas decide the preparation. That comes before any question of colour.

  3. Painting the samples

Two or three tones go straight onto the wall, large enough to judge, and on the wall that is actually in question.

  4. A second look in the afternoon

You look at the samples once more, at the hour you really use the room. The decision is made then and not before.

  5. The job, with a firm date

Cover, prepare, paint, clear up. You get a date and an end, not only a start.

The second look is the cheapest part of the job

A tone you dislike in the afternoon costs a whole wall later on. Let us look at it together beforehand.

Wegberg and its villages

Wegberg is a town made of many small villages, and the building stock changes from street to street. A farmhouse on the edge of a village, a nineteen fifties estate house and a new semi detached all need different preparation before the first coat goes on.

Our firm is based in Hückelhoven and works across the Heinsberg district. We are in Wegberg regularly, and because the distances are short, the second look at the sample patch is easy to arrange.

Tobias Knopczyk, owner of Farbenhaft24 Raumgestaltung.

Farbenhaft24 Raumgestaltung is run by Tobias Knopczyk. He has been carrying out building projects since 2012, and learned the trade from his father, who spent his career in construction.

We work the way we would work at home: the substrate first, then the colour, and at the end the site is a room to live in again. You speak to the person who is also up the ladder.

We treat your home as if it were our own.

Common questions before the first coat

Large enough to be a surface rather than a spot. A palm sized dab tells you almost nothing, half a square metre on the right wall tells you almost everything.

In the shop the swatch hangs under neutral artificial light beside hundreds of other colours. At home it hangs on your wall, beside your floor, under your window. That is a different tone even though it is the same paint.

Yes, just not the coolest ones. A white or pale grey with a warm core holds up in even north light, while a pure cold white quickly reads like bare plaster.

That depends on the substrate, not on the painting. Painting is the shorter part; covering, making good and priming are the longer one. We tell you what to expect at the visit.

Yes. Facade cleaning, facade coating and external render are part of it. Outside there is a weather window on top of the light question, so we plan those jobs a little earlier.
